2014 Scottish Festival Genealogy Booth

Posted by hrgenealogy on June 29, 2014

Again this year HRGS will have a genealogy booth at the Colorado Scottish Festival. The festival will be Saturday, August 9 and Sunday August10 at Highland Heritage Park in Highlands Ranch. This is an excellent opportunity for us to promote HRGS. Please consider volunteering for this event. We could definitely use your help!

Last year we had a great time helping people learn about their heritage, while also enjoying the festival for free! Experience with British genealogy research is not required. We’ll have everything you need available to help you help festival attendees curious about their Scottish, Welsh, Irish and English heritage. Check out this Colorado Scottish Festival link for details about the festival and this website below for photos and info about our participation in 2012 and 2013.

The festival hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Time slots for volunteers are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. If you can’t participate for a full four hours, any amount of time will be appreciated. Let me know by email at davidwilliambarton@gmail.com if you can help. The festival organizers want our roster by July 15th. Thanks!

Besides the fun of helping others and meeting new people, those participating will get a free midday meal (the last two years from Subway) and be able to enjoy the festival free. Water and a cooling fan will keep us comfortable in our tent.

Please consider volunteering to help make this year’s HRGS participation in the festival a success. Even if you don’t have British Isle ancestry, you will enjoy the experience.

Scottish Festival Genealogy Booth

Posted by hrgenealogy on August 11, 2013

Again this year, HRGS had a genealogy booth at the Scottish Festival at Highland Park in Highlands Ranch, August 10 and 11, and it was  a great success!

Thanks to volunteers Jeff Fischer, Eileen Langdon, Florene Moore, Linda and Barry Boyle, Ernie Kummerer, Harry Ross, Laura and Greg Schickendaz, Megan and Caitlin Koepsell, Dave Barton, Deanana Kovavich, and Melanie Taffaro for generously giving their time to help people learn more about their Scottish heritage.

We also created interest in HRGS and in the Scottish Genealogy Class we are having 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 24 at the Highlands Ranch Library. This class will be presented by Diane Barbour, an expert on Scottish genealogical research.  More information about this course will be posted on this site in the next few days. If you have Scottish ancestors, or are just interested in Scotland, please plan to attend.

All volunteers did a great job and enjoyed interacting with those attending the festival who stopped by. We will have a booth at next years festival–please plan to volunteer. We’d love to have you.

Below are photos of this years booth.

Posted by hrgenealogy on August 6, 2012

The Highlands Ranch Genealogical Society was honored to have the privilege of manning the genealogy booth for the Scottish Festival August 4 and 5 at the Highlands Ranch Heritage Park. We were pleased to help those who stopped by with questions about their Scottish Heritage and how to research their family history.
