For the third year running, HRGS had a genealogy booth at the Colorado Scottish Festival on Saturday, August 9th and Sunday the 10th at the Highland Park in Highlands Ranch. As always has been the case, we had a great time helping people learn about their heritage!

Our booth was in a new location this year, but that did not keep festival goers from finding us. Crowds were the largest we’ve seen.

After helping people identify their clan, we often directed them to that clan’s tent. Over 20 clans were represented at the festival.

Besides the fun of helping others and meeting new people, we were able to enjoy the many festival events and booths for free. Here are some highlights of the festival:

On Saturday, a parade of dogs marched down the main festival thoroughfare.

Bagpipers performed at various times during the day.

Sunday morning vintage British cars made an appearance.

The Scottish traditional games were held in front of our tent’s new location, giving us a ringside seat.

Thanks to volunteers Ernie Kummerer, Dave, Lucy and Alicia Barton, Deanana Kovavich, Georgina Ham, Lilly and Matthew Miller, Gordon Taylor, Jean and Jim Genaski, Brendan Murphy and Bonnie Wright for generously giving their time to help people learn more about their Scottish heritage. We also appreciate Linda Boyle, Barry Wolfe and Eileen Langdon for volunteering. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, they were not able to participate.
Many thanks to HRGS, Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England (WISE) and Douglas County Library for generously loaning valuable research materials. Eileen once again did a great job obtaining the WISE materials for us.
All volunteers did a great job and enjoyed interacting with those attending the festival who stopped by. We will have a booth at next year’s festival so please plan to volunteer. We’d love to have you!
