The Highlands Ranch Genealogical Society and the Highlands Ranch Library hosted a Genealogy Day/Open House 12-5 p.m., Sunday, April 21 at the Highlands Ranch Library that was a great success.
Both those just thinking of researching their heritage as well as “old hands” looking for help with “brick walls” found the resources they needed. In addition to showing off the work of our members, participants learned about online and print genealogy resources that are available for free at the library and from Kim Paul of Leave a Legacy Videos how to interview family members to uncover what they know about our ancestors. Those who are ready to share their research with other got help from John Zeck at Tattered Cover Press Services, who showed us how to publish a professional looking book. Also, the professionals at Scangaroo offered 5 free photos scanned, and demonstrated their unique mobile scanning services.
Below are photos of the event. We are looking forward to another genealogy fair / open house next year.

The Highlands Ranch Genealogical Society was honored to have the privilege of manning the genealogy booth for the Scottish Festival August 4 and 5 at the Highlands Ranch Heritage Park. We were pleased to help those who stopped by with questions about their Scottish Heritage and how to research their family history.

The Highlands Ranch Genealogical Society was established in 1997 to promote an interest in genealogy and history through:
Encouraging and instructing members in quality genealogical research and documentation techniques through informative programs and educational materials.
Assisting and supporting genealogical libraries, archives, and historical museums in Colorado that are open to the public.
Publishing genealogical information as directed by the membership. There are nine meetings held per year.
We meet from from September to May, 7 PM to 9 PM the first Tuesday of every month in the Highlands Ranch Library located at 9292 Ridgeline Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129. From 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM you can view handouts, ask questions, meet old friends and make new ones. The formal meeting will start at 7 PM with a brief business session followed by that night’s program.
